America Has Been Eating Too Much Oppression Lately and I Think They Need to Lose Some Weight

What happened to America,

Home of the free?

Because it seems free for the majority,

But not for me.

Let’s face the reality

Of police brutality,

The fear of being pulled over

For what should be a simple traffic stop

Turns dangerous in the hands of a racist cop.

Michael Brown

Trayvon Martin

Eric Garner

Sandra Bland

The fear of being next.

From

“I can’t breathe”

To

“Hands up, don’t shoot”

All wrongful death lawsuits.

Their killers walk free,

Acquitted,

Or never even charged

While families grieve in misery.

America has been eating too much oppression

And I hope they consider a salad soon.

Because why should I live in fear

Simply because I have more melanin

In my skin

Than you?
