Audio Projects
Here lives all of the audio stories I've worked on while earning my master's degree at Berkeley
UC Berkeley Graduate Student Workers Strike
After months of bargaining with no agreement made, students decided to organize a strike for fair labor practices and higher pay. The United Auto Workers Union represents 48,000 of those student workers, making this the biggest strike in the history of higher education. This was my first ever audio story and appeared on KALX.
The Bay Podcast: Thousands of UC Academic Workers Are on Strike
Universities across the country rely on students and academic workers to grade papers, run classes, conduct research, and provide student support. It’s demanding work, often for little pay. But now, the unions representing 48,000 University of California students and academic workers say they’ve had enough, and on Monday thousands of people across the system's 10 campuses went on strike.
Guest: Bria Suggs, journalist and graduate student at UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism
Land Back in the Bay Area
Representatives of the City of Oakland passed a resolution to return five acres of parkland to the Ohlone, the Indigenous people of the Bay Area. The municipality made history as the first in the nation to return city land to an indigenous group that’s not federally recognized.

Reporting for Northgate Radio, five journalists unpack Oakland’s legislation, along with other ways institutions in the East Bay are attempting to repair harm done to local Indigenous communities.

This 30-minute audio special is hosted by me and was run by KALX on 12/29/22 and KALW on 1/4/23

A walk through history in the heart of Berkeley’s Black community
Hear William Rumford III share the significance of his grandfather’s pharmacy and Tina Jones Williams tell the story of Kramer’s beauty salon as you relive a Black History Month walking tour from the South Berkeley Legacy Project. Mixed-media reporting done by myself and Corey Antonio Rose for Berkeleyside on 2/23/23
The Bay Podcast: The Residents Keeping South Berkeley’s Black History Alive
If you’ve ever driven down Sacramento Street in South Berkeley, you’ve probably seen the statue of William Byron Rumford Sr. prominently displayed on the median off Ashby Ave. Rumford was a civil rights advocate who became the Bay Area’s first African American elected to the California Legislature in 1948. He also owned the pharmacy across the street from the site of the statue. Both are stops on the South Berkeley Legacy Project’s Black History walking tour.

The tour is led by local historian and lifelong South Berkeley resident, Tina Jones Williams. The tour highlights cultural pillars in Berkeley’s Black community amid displacement and rapid change.
Guests: Corey Antonio Rose, producer Its Been a Minute and Bria Suggs, a journalist at UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism.
Northgate Radio
Northgate Radio is a live news radio show produced by audio students at UC Berkeley's Graduate School of Journalism. The show airs on KALX at 9 am. To produce a live radio show, we practiced making billboards, managing a show clock, and hosting live. For intermediate audio, we made three shows. I did a live news segment for the first show and had stories run in the other two. I also co-hosted the 05/04 show.
Musician Profile- The Band Cope
