AFROPUNK 2021 Coming to Atlanta This Weekend

On September 25 and 26, AFROPUNK Atlanta will be taking place at Atlantic Station in the Pinnacle Lot.

The two-day festival will include performances by Tems, Rico Nasty, Wale, Smino, and more. AFROPUNK’s website describes its name as originating from “Afro: as in, born of African spirit and heritage” and “punk: as in rebel, opposing the simple route”.

Their goal is to “define culture” and to create a “safe space” for those attending. The “house rules” of AFROPUNK, according to their Instagram is “No sexism, no racism, no ableism, no homophobia, no fatphobia, no transphobia, no hatefulness.”

There are new COVID-19 protocols for those who want to go to the festival after AFROPUNK 2020 was canceled and replaced with a virtual, global experience. All attendees and staff are required to provide documentation of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of the event to enter.

Proof of either vaccination or a negative test should be submitted online prior to arrival.

“We have worked hard to build a safe environment where our community can enjoy music, engage in positive discussions and express themselves without fearing for their safety,” as stated on AFROPUNK’s website. “AFROPUNK is committed to facilitating a safe space for patrons, ensuring that health and security risks are at a minimum.”

Other safety procedures include more sanitation stations, a mandatory mask policy and frequent disinfection of surfaces.
